Rick Lee, an industrial designer, was influenced by the minimalist principles of Bauhaus and the irreverent atmosphere from his early professional experience in Italy, especially with Studio Alchimia. Inspiration is everywhere for Rick as he propels his designs forward, backward, and side-to-side, resulting in a distinctive style that is dynamic and unexpected. His designs range from the whimsical to the austere as he metamorphoses himself to meet the demands of each new project. Though he focuses his energy primarily on furniture, nevertheless, he has explored many areas of design, including glassware, lighting, interiors, and experimental projects such as fashion/furniture exhibition and designing a restaurant in San Francisco, Firecracker. He also participated in San Francisco opera opening of year 2001 by designing and furnishing a space for the post opera party at the City Hall. Rick is currently based in San Francisco where he shares a studio with his wife, a fashion designer, Colleen Quen. |
