A relative newcomer to the world of furniture design, Jason Allen-Rouman, as founder and principal designer of the company that bears his name, is quickly establishing himself as a defining force with what he calls "fusion furniture."

"In general, people rarely have just one style of furniture in their homescapes. We acquire pieces as we move through life and are then challenged to bring everything together cohesively. I'm driven to design pieces that work seamlessly in both traditional and contemporary environments without the stress associated with a hodge-podge look," says Allen-Rouman.

Pieces like the Kevin Footstool and The Soterios Lamp Collection are good examples of this concept. Rich woods and classic leathers work well on their modernistic shapes and update rooms dominated by staid antiques. Likewise, they as easily blend well with strictly contemporary furnishing.

A fifth-generation native San Franciscan, Jason received a Production Emphasis Cinema degree from San Francisco State University and eventually began designing furniture accidentally.
"I dreamed of a screenwriter career for years and, after graduating, quickly realized that while I had plenty of 'that vision thing' going on, I couldn't tell a story to save my life. Totally dejected, I took an upholstery class at a local community college and was immediately hooked."

Studying under the instruction of noted Bay Area journeyman upholsterers, Jason worked toward developing his own creative vision. Striking out on his own in 1998, he immediately began designing commissions and planning for his own line of upholstered goods. Within a year and a half, while building a steady private client base, he launched the Allen-Rouman Original Signature Collection at the 2001 International Contemporary Furniture Fair. The Kevin Footstool, The Andrew Clark Bed, The Tommy Table, and the Soterios Lamps are among this collection.

Today Jason focuses on developing new additions to his Signature Collection, designing custom furniture pieces for his clients, and occasionally accepting commissions for full-scale residential or commercial interior design.
