Fossil Faux Studios, is a cutting-edge San Francisco furniture/accessory
design and production company that uses resin and recycled computer
components to produce their popular bits® and Relica™ product lines
that are garnering the attention of the some of the hottest techno
firms/dot.coms, architects, interior designers, art galleries, and
retail stores in the Bay Area and beyond.
Based in San Francisco, Fossil Faux Studios was established by
artist/designer Marcia Stuermer to provide unique, thematic art
applications for contemporary living. Whether it be in her unique,
sophisticated custom works of furniture-occasional and conference
tables, desks, screens, benches, countertops, etc.; her imaginative
custom architectural design applications such as panel inserts,
partition walls, drop ceilings, handrails, and floor inserts; or
her dynamic, interactive sculpture installations, Stuermer manipulates
the conceptual duality of nature and technology into a delicately
frozen animation with her exquisite, translucent creations.
Stuermer's background includes a diverse art education from Cooper
School of Art, The Cleveland Institute of Art, and her sculpture
degree from The Kansas City Art Institute with a history of artistic
accomplishments spanning multi-media performances, installations,
and custom commissions. She has exhibited work in art galleries,
design shows, and public venues nationwide and has created custom
pieces for numerous high tech corporations such as Lotus Development
and Intel. In addition to her ongoing designs with her furniture
company, which was seen at the 2001 International Contemporary Furniture
Fair in NYC, she is currently working on several private commissions,
as well as custom work for a "Library of the Future" and an interactive
multi-panel resin installation with fiber optic lighting and audio
elements-both in Seattle, WA.
A conceptual undercurrent of the delicate relationship between
Nature and Technology in our world is present in the expanding Fossil
Faux collection of work. This duality presented through the sophisticated
yet surprising juxtaposition of the future fossils of computer components,
is captured in both the "amber-like" resin of the bits® lines and
the "rock-like" slabs of the Relica™ line. Since its beginnings,
Fossil Faux has focused on providing fun and intelligent functional
designs with recycled materials. Being an environmentally conscious
company, the majority of materials used in designs are either recycled,
or come from sustainable suppliers.
Fossil Faux Studios works via a direct designer-to-client relationship
to create custom work for a wide spectrum of applications and site
installations. The Fossil Faux lines are available directly through
the company and through select distributors. Fossil Faux has designed
and created unique works for both residential and commercial projects
and art venues throughout the States and in Europe.
