By using a restrictive and reductivive process in use of material
and design, Carol Wright's furniture combines various influences
from outside of design. With a previous BFA in painting, as well
as studies in furniture design at the California College of Arts
and Crafts, Wright's furniture is based on a rigorous thought process
with extreme attention to detail and selection of material. Lead
by an intense curiosity about the places people create for themselves,
Wright believes furniture should be able to work in a variety of
environments and never be more important than the user.
Raised in Virginia, Wright has an appreciation for the history
of furniture while being attracted to the West Coast idea of the
"here and now". Using an ordinary material in a subtle or subverted
manner is more exciting and challenging than excessive technology.
Influenced by Chinatown, science, and Pop Culture Wright hopes to
someday stumble across her work at a flea market.
